15 min teapot~ glazed

Orange and teal! I brushed a metallic brown over the top of this orange to see what it would do...nothing. haha but its a cute little thing.  Not fuctional...the lid stuck right on there because everything was so wet when I was rushing to get it done it 15mins, but a great paperweight! Lol

Open house teapot

Wow, this one shocked me! I didn't really know what to expect when I opened up the kiln (after a huge windstorm).  I used low fire clay for this teapot because I had been preparing for my "show season" and used up all my high fire clay.  At my open house earlier this month, I threw and assembled this teapot as a demonstration.  Usually, I am uninspired when I glaze in general, and I don't particularly like low fire glazes, but I was forced to go low fire with the glazes, since I used low fire clay...anyways I love this teapot! Sure its a little glossy for my taste, but it goes with this royal shape :). Yep, happy with this one!

Texture, Texture, Texture!

I went to the library and got a whole bunch of new pottery books to look at, and was so inspired with all the texture I saw.  So, I wanted to make a teapot this week, that you would want to touch!  I think pottery is one of the few art forms that allows people to touch it, and I wanted to draw on this quality.  I will have to glaze this teapot in a somewhat translucent glaze so as to show off this texture as much as possible :).

"Quickie"~ A 15 min Teapot

This is something I've been wanting to try for a long time: a quickie! Haha get your mind outta the gutter!  I'm talking about creating a teapot from start to finnish as quickly as possible, and have it still look good!  I created an awesome video for you guys, and then deleted it on accident! Grrrrr (I was like...NNNOOOOOOOO and then just froze thinking there had to be a way to get it back...nope). So, ill tell you instead.

I created this teapot from one lump of clay and threw "off the hump".  I threw the body, then spout, then lid, and also threw the handle (which was a large ring or donut.)

After all the pieces where thrown (still within the 15mins), I assembled the pieces.  This was difficult because of how wet the clay was.  And there you have a 15 min teapot.  Iguess this is kind of like quick, timed sketches (usually of live models) that drawing artists do.  I'm happy that I got to try this challenge out, and the teapot is cool too!

I especially like the lid!  Always see these lids, but I've never made one :).  Pretty good for being under presure of the clock...and speaking of "the clock" its 11:43 and I just made it by 17mins to be on time for this week's teapot! Fewf!

close, but no cigar

Ok, so yesterday was my open studio sale and it went amazing! It was soo fun and and I feel so blessed to have so many supporters!  Here is the teapot that I made during the open house :). I like it. I love how full the spout is, but I wish the base was more narrow.  This teapot is close, but I feel I can do better. I like the handle and some other features but I think I need to try again next week and develope this idea a little more :).

Open house teapot!

For this week's teapot, I've decided to use it to demonstrate at my open studio sale, this Saturday (10 - 7)!  This is the design I've come up with and I must be crazy! You would think that id choose something easy, something I've made a hundred times.  But no, I choose something I've never made and something that has a wide belly and a unique handle with an inset lid! Haha I'm crazy, but I want to make this teapot and I want people to feel a part of this "year of the teapot" business!  I think it would be cool if I was a visitor at my open house and I was able to say at the final show that I got to see this teapot being made!  I hope I don't mess up, but if I do, its real, that's what happens when you try new things!  So ill be posting a little late this week (Sunday) with pics from the open house with the finnished teapot! Yay!

Studio Open House!

Hey! So this Saturday from 10 to 7 I'm having and open studio sale! I wouldn't have mentioned it in this exclusive teapot blog! Haha BUT! I'm going to have all the teapots so far on display! They, of course, won't be for sale until the grand sale at the end of the year (still deciding on a venue), but the teapots will be out on display for everyone to get a closer look at them (and start picking your favorite to purchase! ;))

Anyways! Here's the link to the event...you're all invited: http://www.facebook.com/events/472761669406994/
