"~~~~~~" Teapot

I could not think of a name for this beauty! I need your help!  Whoever suggests the coolest name will get to name this teapot :).

I started out by throwing the lid and spout of the hump (as usual) then, with the leftover clay, I threw a pad of clay about 1/4 inch think.  I undercut that and set it aside.  Then I threw the cone shape without a bottom. After I cut it off the wheel I picked it up and pressed in on the sides creating an oval.  Then I placed the oval cone onto the already scored pad I threw earlier.  I let everything set up and assembled everything.

I love the bottom.  The little wiggles are fun, but also echo the handle and curve I cut out on the end of the spout.  The body is sort of triangular and I used my slip spikes to emphasize this by making the spikes in the shape of triangles.

Once again, I sketched this out beforehand (not detailed, but enough) and I think it shows!  I'm so very happy with this teapot.  It's the first time I've made an oval form this way and I'm going to us it in my work more often.

Touchy teapot

I am in love with this shape and texture! I love to put my hands around it and feel the little pokes :).  You just wanna touch it when you look at it...right?  The spout is cute and little and the handle complements the shape nicely. The line down the handle repeats the line around the body.  I love how round and circular the body is....sometimes its hard to get the top part of the body to be round and full, its hard to explain, but its hard to make the top as round as the bottom. Usually, for me, the top half always ends up looking less inflated.  But the lids is really nice too. Perhaps my favorite part of this piece is the fact that the weight of the piece is appropriate.  When I say this I mean, its not heavier or lighter than expected...I just think the trimming and everything really came together here!

Dr. Seuss House Teapot

Well this was a challenge, but having the drawing reallly helped.   Whenever I take the time to sketch my design out first, it pays off :).  Usually when I throw a teapot I use one lump of clay and throw everything (spout, lid, and body) out of the one lump.  But this time I used three seperate lumps of clay.  I did this because I wasn't exactly sure how much clay id need and I needed the body complete so as to get the proportions of the spout and "upstairs" correct.  Usually the spout is a very small amout of clay for me but this teapot has a very large spout.  I actually used the same amout of clay for the spout and body.  I love the spout its so fun.  I also loved the swirly lines I put into the parts of the teapot.  I've been using my slip again (not used since the teapot "Victoria") and I forgot how much I liked it.  I felt like I was decorating a cake when I was adding the doors and windows and doodles :).  It was really fun. The handles are supposed to be stairs and the whole teapot is supposed to look like a house inspired by Dr. Seuss' "The Lorax".

Ballet

Ok...so im an hr late this week! The teapot has been done since wed, i just never took the pics or posted. Anyways... im super tired right now, but I was just laying down for bed and freaked out a little because I forgot to post. So... here's the ballerina teapot. Isn't she lovely?  I've always wanted to be a ballerina.  I was in dance as a little girl, but we moved and I was not able to continue dancing.  I still think about taking a few classes :).  This teapot had a challenge: the legs.  I wanted people to know right away which dancer was what so the slippers are important here.  It was a bit of problem solving and trial and error trying to figure out how this teapot is going to stand up and be supported by these skinny legs.  I think of dancers as if they are floating.  Having grace and strength at the same time, I feel this teapot has the qualities of a dancer! I did just realize that with my dancer teapots, you have to remove their heads to pour! Kinda morbid and violent haha because their heads are their lids...oh well.
