Sketchy!

So, this will be a lot of work and unlike anything I've ever done, but it'll pay off! I want to get into the "500 teapots" book puplished by Lark ~ you've seen them "500 Bowls", "500 Raku", ect. The books are amazing and it would be my first published anything! Haha so, I can submit 4 teapots and it has to be submitted by april 20. Wow, I knew there was a reason I wanted to make a teapot a week (a reason other than the fact that I love teapots and overwhelming myself, apparently ;)) So, the above sketch is my attempt to "step it up a knotch" (or ten). Luckally I have today off of work so here I goooooooo........

Numero Dos Finished!

So the second teapot is finished! So far there has been no cracking whatsoever so, cross your fingers! I've already learned soooo much. The fist teapot was too dry when I started to attach everything. This is why it stared to crack. I am bisque firing the first teapot right now and I'm still not sure how to glaze it :/. Any ideas? Anyways, back to the teapot at hand... I am much more satasfied with this teapot.

Likes: craftmanship is much better, more attention to detail, the lid is a perfect fit, a new style of handle for me, also a new lid! I usally trim the lid and then add a knob and with this lid I trimmed the knob out of the lid. In other words I only took away clay to creat the knob, which means I started with a super thick lid! I also made a little handless teacup to go with this teapot.

Dislikes: its kinda cheating(a recall to a previous teapot~ there are differences and this pot is better ha), I wish the lid sat down more in the body of the pot~ lower, I wish the spout matchexd the octagon~ness of the body.

We are already getting somewhere! I hope this enthusiasm lasts a long time!  I have an idea for the next pot~ think victorian and detailed!

For Your Viewing Pleasure....

I thought id give you a glimpse into where it all began. This was my very first wheel thrown teapot. I was so proud! The lid wouldnt fit so I pinched the rim to accommodate the lid (hence the pinch pot look). And the spout pours terribly. The handle is huge and unbalanced.  and the foot is not trimmed. There are so many flaws with this but it has so much sentimental value, ill probably never get rid of it:).   Ill probably look back ten years from now at the pots im making today and say the same thing! Haha but it really is all about the journey, and not the destination.

Feelin Lucky

All the components are made except for the handle :). Ill still have to trim the lid and body. Im also planning on faceting the outside of the body of the teapot and the cup.  It was a long day today: taught a lesson this morning, then worked, but I was still really excited to come home and trim 8 bowls for a part of a special order, throw a plate, and make these parts. Thats the thing about doing something you love, you'll do it no matter what. I just feel lucky to have found something so young in life, and lucky to get to do it everyday! Life is good:)

The First of Many!

The first teapot is done and drying now!  I'm really excited about this one.  There are 7 pieces attached together to make this fun teapot: handle, spiral on the handle, lid, knob on the lid, body, spout, and the foot.
Likes:  The carved detail, super tall foot, stylized handle, long, narrow spout.
Dislikes:  Handle too thin, spout has all-of-a-sudden angle (i'd like it more gradual), foot might be too tall.
Overall: success! I like it so far.  It has a feeling of exoticness. haha if that's even a word :).  It makes me feel like if i had tea with this pot it would be for a special occation.
This teapot will probably dry for a week and a half then i'll bisque fire it, then glaze it.  I'll upoad more, nicer, pics when it's finnished and glazed.
Anyone have any ideas for glazing options??
i have a few....but am open to suggestions :).  I want to utilize the carved lines for someting.  I was thinking black but i have a new light blue and alabaster glaze i'm dying to try out.

Magic carpet ride

Wow! The snow is really coming down! Perfect potting weather if you ask me:). I just finished making the components for the fist teapot: body, spout, lid, nob, and foot. This teapot is inspired by my love for Disney movies, specifically, Aladdin! It's going to sit on a tall foot and have a long spout. I'm also thinking of carving geometric, repeated patterns on only the bottom half. I'll upload a pic later. I'm very excited fir this first teapot. I just hope for no cracks! Cross your fingers! Tomorrow I'll be assembling all the components. Stay warm!

Getting started!

Wow ok! I came up with this idea to start a blog two nights ago and just did it! It reminds me of when I was 12 years old and used to write in my diary! The purpose of this blog is to inform people of my pottery! Teapots to be specific. I also wanted to do this to keep me accountable to my challenge to myself. I am going to crest a teapot a week. I will end the year with 50 teapots and a show to sell them at and to celebrate! I'm excited and nervous:). I'll be uploaded photos and progress reports. I hope you all enjoy this as much as I do! I'm off to start sketching!
